Error "No editor could be selected"

I am trying to upload images (jpg) but get the following error “No editor could be selected”. What does this mean and how to I fix things? (see screen print attached)

Through further trial and error testing I found that I could only upload images with a maximum dimension of 300px. However I really want to use 500 to 600px images. Is there any way to do this? Please advise. Thanks

Gmedia Gallery requires the GD or ImageMagick PHP extension. Please contact your hosting provider to enable them. Without GD or ImageMagick images can’t be processed. Also check if you have enough PHP Memory Limit on your server (at least 128Mb).

My web host enabled the GD and and reset the PHP memory. For some strange reason I am still having problems with JPGs, but PNGs are loading fine.
